About Ericka Gray
Art allows me to envision the world the way I want to. Perhaps that's what creativity is - the ability to see things differently. My constant challenge is how best to use my tools, whether putting pigments on canvas or capturing light with a camera, to convey my vision. Most of the time I fail to fully achieve my vision but I keep trying because not trying is harder.
My paintings are inspired by the rawness and beauty of nature. Sometimes they are dreamscapes of the seaside and marshlands of New England where I live or the great expanses of the world where I frequently travel. As a veteran storm chaser, I am captivated by the raw power of storms and the beauty of the sky and my art often reflects that fascination.
I work primarily in oils and lately have transitioned from canvas to panels. For photography, I switched from film to digital SLR’s in 2004 and my primary camera body is now a Canon R5.
Throughout my childhood, I was immersed in art classes and private lessons. After high school, I attended the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Philadelphia, PA, majoring in Painting. I later attended Boston University's Center for Digital Imaging Arts for photography. I continue to take courses and workshops in both art and photography.
